CAT Ears

Cat-like Auditory Transducer Ears

This is a project where I create a second set of ''''ears'''' that are cat-themed (yknow the whole catboy thing)

The main requirements are that the cat ears:
  • Are non-intrusive (they look like a normal pair of cat ears) and
  • you can hear through them if you put them on
With this in mind, i will seperate this project into three parts:
  • the electronics - so the 'hearing' works
  • the frame - actually putting the electronics into a wearable frame
  • the finish - getting stuff like fur & painting the frame, etc

part 1: the electronics

the first issue is figuring out how to make the person wearing the cat ears actually hear what the ears are hearing.

Option 1: speakers / headphones
this option is O.K. i guess, it feels a little too intrusive, as if you interact with other people they may think you are'nt paying attention to them. + and if they are open-back headphones, you could get feedback / other people could hear what is coming thru the ears

Option 2: earbuds / hearing aids
this one feels too hard, i don't have the money for special 'invisible ' hearing aids, and normal ear buds have the same issue as headphones.

Option 3: audio transducer if u were paying attention to the name (CAT Ears) then u'll recognize this one, these are small (1 inch high / 1 cm wide) metal components that transduce the audio signal into vibrations, which can pass thru the skull, which means that they dont' really have to be near the ears at all (it does help tho). this is the final choice for hearing component.

The transducers i picked were from adafruit: https://www.adafruit.com/product/1674. these arent too expensive, although i had to find a reseller bc the shipping was quite expensive (tbf i live on the other side of the world). they require a (at least) 1 watt amplifyer, so that's next.

the amplifier

<2023-01-13>: Coming soon
Class D audio amp is best ithink for this kinda thing !!

Power management

typical tp4056 lithium battery chargisrcng n protection circuit

microphones

im probly gonna go with MEMS microphones, as theyre the smallest ones

unfortunetly i havent gotten to work on these as much , but i have learnt how to do pcbs ! so that i can make them properly when i can :3
